Into the Woods Jr Musical Information


We are very excited that your child has chosen to audition for  ”Into The Woods Jr.” Theater is a vibrant part of our culture and community and allows children the freedom to express themselves creatively while promoting individuality and developing self-confidence.  At AAMCT whether backstage or in the spotlight students are taught to use their talents to help each other, which enhances the company as a whole and ensures the high quality performances we have become known for. It is our goal to provide as many children as possible with an educational and high quality theatre experience in hopes of fostering a lifelong appreciation for music, theatre and the arts.

Be careful what you wish for a Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical.  Into the Woods JR. features all of your favorite characters – Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.

Audition Date

Auditions are Saturday, September 8th by appointment at St. John's Community Center in Mokena. (Use the North entrance)  There are two time slots starting at 10:00am and 12:30 pm.

To register for an audition slot you can bring your registration form to the studio Mon - Thur 2:00 until 7:30 pm.   Or you can mail it in to 19108 Wolf Road, Mokena IL  60448.   Please call 708-479-0440 or email with any questions after reading the information below.   Please note there has been a change in procedure from last Fall.  In order to register for a spot you must complete the audition registration form and turn in the registration fee.  The $25 audition registration fee will be applied toward tuition if you are cast. If we are not able to cast you, the fee will be refunded. If you decided not to audition or participate the fee will not be refunded. We are planning to take as many students as possible and we would like to make sure everyone is serious about participating.     

There will be a makeup audition date on Thursday, September 6th at 6:30 pm.  Please call or email if you need the makeup date. You will follow all the procedures as if you were auditioning on Saturday.

What to Expect at Audition

At auditions students will be taught a short dance combination, sing a portion of a song off of the audition CD (available at all About Music with lyrics $5) from the show and read a selection for the character you are auditioning for, which can be found on the website by clicking the “Audition Lines PDF” button. 

Call Backs

Call backs will be held on Sunday, September 9th from approximately 12:00 to 5:00 pm and Monday, September 10th if needed. Not everyone will need to be seen for a callback.  The call back list will be posted on the website Saturday night


Performances are Thursday-Sunday November 15th -18th.  Depending on enrollment we may double or triple cast some of the characters but each student will be in a minimum of two shows.  All shows are at St John’s Community Center in Mokena.

Enrollment Costs

The tuition fee is $325 per student. ($300 after the audition registration fee is deducted. All payments are cash or check only) This helps to offset the cost of months of education and supervision during rehearsals as well as the child’s script, CD, costume, set construction and materials, props, royalties, publicity, rehearsal space rental and theatre rental.   It does not include shoes, socks, tights or leotards.   


Tickets are $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and kids 12 and under when purchased in advance.  Seating is reserved and tickets are assigned in the order received, group rates are available, please inquire. Tickets at the door are cash only, $15.

Volunteer Information and Expectations

Volunteer Info As with any organization of this size all parents are required to volunteer.  A minimum of 5 hours per child is required or if it is more convenient you can pay the $50 buyout fee.  PLEASE NOTE:  We are still working on the honor system and do not require the volunteer fee in advance like many other organizations.  However if you have not fulfilled your volunteer time from a previous play the full or partial buyout fee is due at audition sign-up. Please inquire if you are unsure as we keep a running list.

Tuition Assistance

We do not want to exclude anyone based on financial need.  Time payment options are available; please email for more information in advance of your audition.   Requests not made in advance will not be granted. The invoices for production costs need to be paid on time in order to avoid late fees which make it more expensive for everyone to participate. 

All financial arrangements must be made prior to auditions and fulfilled at least 3 weeks before the show performances. There must be a down payment of some type made at the parent meeting. It is unfortunate we have had to add additional stipulations but it is more important to spend time working with the kids then hunting down late payments. Please note out of fairness to all if you have not met your tuition requirements you will not be able to purchase tickets. 


The mandatory parent meeting and costume measurement and first rehearsal is on Saturday, September 15th.

Rehearsals, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY as there are some changes here from past productions are on Saturday, Thursday and Monday.  Everyone will have rehearsals on Saturdays starting September 15th from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, at St. John's Community Center. Some of these rehearsals will be broken up into morning and afternoon depending on the number of students that are chosen for the cast.  But everyone will rehearse in the morning in September and most of October.

Everyone will also have some Thursday evening rehearsals from 6:00 to 8:00pm, at St. John's in Fellowship Hall. These will be divided by dance number so it's not every Thursday for everyone. 

All solo singing and speaking parts will also rehearse on some Monday evenings from 6:00 -8:00 pm at All About Music, this is also broken up by scene and song. In general the larger the role, the more rehearsal time is required, but everyone will rehearse on Saturday mornings.  There will also be two Sunday rehearsals in October and the dates will be available shortly

Tech Week

Tech Week dates are Sun., Mon., Tues., Wed., Thur November 11th -15th from approximately 4:00 to 9:00pm  Attendance is mandatory if you cannot be at tech week you cannot be in the show.  If we have two casts the rehearsals will be split and each cast alternates days.

The quality of the production depends on the cast as a whole, attendance is extremely important, students missing 2 unexcused rehearsals may have their parts reassigned or be removed from part or all of the show.  Just like any sport, the cast is a team and when members are missing you can't play a good game.  If you miss a rehearsal it is your responsibility to get together with the other cast members to learn what you missed.
